I attended UNH for two years before transferring to another school. Whether you will enjoy UNH is HIGHLY dependent on what type of person you are.

UNH is greatly dominated by Greek Life. Frats are where you party on the weekends unless you find people off-campus to party with. Most freshman pledge sororties and Fraternities so they can gain easy access to weekend parties. Not only do the frat parties get old QUICK but they are also pretty lame (bring your own beer…100+ crammed into a dirty basement).

While I met a lot of very nice people at UNH I was shocked by how close-minded the majority of the student body was. Most of the students at UNH are apperance obsessed but not in a good way.

Also, UNH is not your typical campus ideology wise. I am extremely moderate in my political views and didn't really go to college to become involved in politics but still, the majority of UNH students are not concerned with politics on a national or international level and it SHOWS when you are among a group of UNH students. They are often very close-minded and seem turned off by others from different regions and backgrounds.

UNH also has very little diversity ethnicity wise and the majority of the campus is the same in apperance (same clothes, hair cuts etc). While I had many friends, I found it to be extremely cliquey. The prepps rule on this campus.

There are many NH residents who are very active in the outdoors and very laid back. These people are awesome but tend to move off-campus right away and keep to themselves.

I would also like to point out to others thinking about this college that it is NOT a party school. That is the one thing that baffles me…I honestly do not know how this school became known as a top party school. Trust me, I love to party and this place is a joke. If your idea of a party is going to a frat house and pulling out a warm Milk. Best out of your bookbag then UNH is for you! For the rest of you looking for fun outdoor parties with keggs and some crazy house parties I urge you…before you head to Durham, head elsewhere!

Also, this place couldn't throw a wild party if it tried. The resident halls are on lock down and the RA's take the alcohol policies pretty seriously (they really have to).The UNH cops are in full force and are always on the look out for open containers. On other dry campuses it easy to kind of sneak your beer while you are out but not at UNH. If drink while you are out and about (no matter how careful you are) you will most likely get caught and take a ride in the patty wagon.

UNH is a beautiful campus in a quaint little town. The landscape is breath taking and there are a lot of outdoor opportunities esp. if you join the right clubs. It is also a public university with a great student/teacher ratio. Compared to other State Universities, you will find the classes much smaller and get more peronalized attention.

I don't mean to come down on this school but time and time again I find it highly misrepresented. If you are interested in Greek life then UNH is for you. If you are more comfortable with the Abercrombie and Fitch/ Athletic type that dominated HS, UNH is def. for you. Like I said before, you will recieve a quality education at UNH and I have friends that would tell you it was the best place for them.

I urge all prospective students to make sure they VISIT and spend a weekend before they commit to UNH. Def. attend a frat party and talk to other students to get an idea. If you can, try to get off campus and party a little. Check out the clubs and see if there are any you would like to join (UNH does have some great clubs). Also, survey the local area because it is very rural and may bug you out if you are from an urban setting.
