Date: Jan 30 2005 Major: History/Histories (art history/etc.) (This Major's Salary over time) My degree from the U of M only helped me in that the field I chose to work in (Arts/non-profit), a degree is generally desirable and helpful in the initial job search. It didn't really matter where my degree came from, it was just that I had one that was important. The U of M is really big, so one needs to actively seek smaller on or off campus groups to get work experience or to build professional relationships.I also suggust going to a couple of your favorite professor's office hours to ask questions and create a working relationship with them, even if you don't necessarily need their help. I found that I was able to go to them for suggestions with my career, grad school, and other questions I had. At the "U", you need to do that since professors generally will not remember who you are since there are so many students there. I would have been better off elsewhere at a smaller school, but I turned out allright. It is what you make of it.
