Major: Computer Science (This Major's Salary over time)
NCCU is more concerned about sticking it, to the students then they are with making the campus a productive learning environment. The University Police Department is a JOKE!!!! Vehicles are constantly being broken into, vandelized and damaged. There are also many thefts and robberies by gun point. Campus police do not adequetly watch the parking lots or provide protection to the students. They have no investigative procedure AT ALL. Once an incident occurs, it pretty much gets documented and filed away in the "that's your bad" file. No video equipment has been installed to watch the parking lots or any other area that is frequented by crime. Booming radio systems disturb the peace all day and late into the night. Often I am unable to hear my proffessor over the loud radios outside. The campus police, do nothing about this disturbance. In fact, the only thing that the campus police seem to effectively handle are parking tickets and the towing away of student vehicles. Dormitories, have roaches and do not get cleaned frequently or properly. Once you've moved on campus, the office of residential life will not let you leave NO MATTER WHAT!!! They will charge your account for the full amount for the Fall and Spring Semesters even if you decide that you no longer want to stay there. So if you have financial aid like most do, they automatically deduct their fees from your money, no matter what. The rules seem to change from day to day and from person to person.Computer labs are always packed and 60%-75% of the computers are ALWAYS BROKEN. This goes for the computer labs in the dormitories, the library, and the departments. The campus is always 'UNDER CONSTRUCTION'. So you will be waken up every weekday morning @ 7am by some type of construction crew. You must also walk through construction to get to any class you need to attend. Sometimes you might have to plot a new way to get to class, because the streets and sidewalks close down at the administrations leisure. And don't even try to dress nicely or wear any new kicks around campus because the dirt and dust from the construction will ruin your gear. If your a chick, don't wear heels because ALL of the sidewalks and asphalt roads are cracked up, broken, uneven and unsafe. You will be sure to fall, like many do.If you have questions, comments, or concerns, then that's your problem, because no department on campus regularly picks up their phones or returns messages. If you can't get on the internet from your room…um.. that's about a 3 week issue. If your phone or voicemail is acting up, well darling that's sounds like a 2 week problem. No one is responsible for anything. When you call someone about a problem, you will be given another department to call, and then another, and then another, until you get to a voicemail and get frustrated. Now academics…hahahah. During my first 3 days of math class for the Fall semester, their was NO INSTRUCTOR!!!! Students were just waiting outside the class room…finally a substitute came and pretty much just took attendance and that was it…This happens way too much.In short, NCCU is a joke. I couldn't possibly write about everything that goes on around here. I am only here because I stupidly missed the application deadline for NC State and now it's too late to leave because my financial aid package is only good here. If given the opportunity, I would have gone to Wake Tech Community College instead of comming here.
