In short, if you're interested in studying Humanities, stay away! The faculty here are certainly well-published and intelligent, but have a acquired a deserved reputation for being hateful, especially to their graduate students. The majority have degrees from Ivy League schools and are bitter that they are at UK. In turn, they take this out on their graduate students; they go out of their way to make sure we know that we are 'second-rate' students at a 'second-rate' school. This attitude translates into very little support within the department for your research or job goals. Further, the department does not provide support for its PhDs beyond TAs. You will not be able to get the real teaching experience you need to be competitive in today's market.
