Major: Business - Management and Administration (This Major's Salary over time)
As mentioned by an earlier MIS major, this school does not provide the education and tools necessary to be successful in the IT/IS profession. Most MIS and CS students I have spoken with admit they do not feel they have the qualifications required to pursue a successful career in IT, and plan to take courses outside of the university in order to "catch up". If I was not already working in the field as a professional developer and had prior experience, I would be at a loss. It's embarassing to meet with recruiters as most will automatically asume a graduate of OSU does NOT have the required knowledge and will tend to put the candidate on the back burner or offer a very low entry level position. Most classes were taught by under-qualified graduate students, most who cannot clearly speak english. Although a very select few were willing to help the students, most were too busy with individual research to devote appropriate time to instruction. Testing is a joke. It is a test of puzzle solving and straight memorization. MIS is a field of hands-on application, of which very little hands on training is offered. If you're into athletics, this is your school. If you're looking for an education, consider going elsewhere. Paying out-of-state tuition may even be worth your while.
