Major: Psychology (This Major's Salary over time)
What can I say…I went to this place for 4 1/2 years after getting snubbed for admission by University of Texas at Austin (which is where I REALLY wanted to go, and in retrospect I should have taken UT-Austin's offer of provisional/probational admission, but never mind). I thought college would be more or less the same no matter where you went…boy was I wrong. Let me sum it up this way: if you're not rich or white, then AVOID SMU AT ALL COSTS. The Greek system is cliquish and subtly racist; I have had a couple of Indian friends kicked out of a frat party because the guy at the door said they were a "minority and a liability." (Whatever happened to going to college to get an education? Sad that these are the same guys running our country…) There was also a brawl a couple of years ago during an intramural football game between some privileged fraternity guys and the East Asian Student Association IM football teams. Oh yeah, forget about the "beautiful women" myth; sure, the girls are hot, yes, but you seriously won't be getting any tail here unless you're part of the rich white majority…As far as academics go, I can only say that they're adequate, but a lot of the times I found that I could squeeze out an "A" from a professor just by visiting his/her office frequently and letting them know that I cared about my academics (I finished with a 3.67). Granted, I didn't take a particularly challenging major, but still…Oh yeah, top that off by having the absolute WORST Division I football program in the nation…the sorriest bunch of sissy losers to ever field a football team since…well, the SMU Mustangs of the previous year. Each new football season is another season counting losses and falling way way way below mediocrity. Way to instill pride in our university, fellas.I graduated and moved to Austin, which I have found fits me much better. I am just beginning to find out that most of society ISN'T like SMU (there's a reason why they call the social scene at SMU "The Bubble"). Seriously, though, I've made more friends here in Austin in one year than in FOUR AND A HALF MISERABLE YEARS at SMU. There isn't a day that goes by that I look back and wonder how much better my life would have been if I had just taken provisional/probational admission at UT-Austin instead of this godawful, hellbound, elitist cesspool.
