As an Athens native, I absolutely abhorred the idea of attending UGA. My small, prep school directly fed into the honors program, so I was convinced that my undergraduate experience there would be a continuation of high school. I figured my life would meander down the same dusty, beaten road as both of my parents, and I would never leave my hometown. I believed I had 'experienced Athens' for long enough. However, after several Ivy waitlists and a deteriorated financial situation, Georgia was my only real option. Almost three years later, I cannot commend my hometown university more rigourously. Athens is not a place; it is a state of mind. The University is the heart of Athens, and consequently, all of the resources of the community go to the school. The facilities are incredible, the students are friendly and well informed, the parties are numerous, the classes are intense, and the faculty consistently amazes me. I encourage everyone interested in a fabulous undergraduate experience to consider the University of Georgia. At the end of four (or more) years, you will not be able to tear yourself away. GO DAWGS!
