I knew UCR doesn't have much school pride, but I hadn't considered that might make it easier to get even more involved in the main school student body, so thank you! This review really helped me get a better picture of what it would be like to go here. |
Major: Business - Management and Administration (This Major's Salary over time)
For most people, UCR is not the first choice on their college list. I remember being in the dorms the first week and how everyone was proclaiming that they would only be at UCR for 2 years because they would be transferring to.. UCLA, USC, Berkeley… etc. The truth is, I was one of these students, but as I made friends and got involved into extracurricular activities.. I decided to stay. I knew many, that did transfer - but many of those people later told me that they had regretted it. The thing about UCR is alot of the students have no pride for their school and because of this alot of negative views on UCR get passed on to their friends and etc. Although overall this is a major bummer, for those few students that do try to succeed in this type of environment.. it is a fantastic opportunity. Unlike larger schools where there is more competition, if a student even remotely puts a little effort into anything, they can succeed. Examples are, if you want to run for a student body position, you will have a large chance of winning. Whereas at a larger school, you would have trouble getting put on the ballot. This also is the same for prestigious programs in which UCR is a part of along with other UC campuses like EAP, UCDC, UC Sacramento.. the list goes on. Because there are less applicants at UCR, this gives a UCR student the opportunity when they might not have the same at a larger campus. Also, there are many ways to get involved at this school: Greek Life, Volunteer Services, Sports, On-Campus Work. Also, the location does suck in Riverside. Do not forget the rent is cheap and we are only 45 mins away from the beach and 1 hour away from LA. I mean compare that to where DAVIS is.. or how the UCSC student are stuck up on a hill with no cars on campus. Riverside is starting to look pretty good. Anyways, to the applicants.. Give UCR a chance. I guarantee that in the future, it will be a school of great success and this will come sooner if the students there now start having a little pride in their school and in themselves.
