Major: Design Arts - Industrial Design/Graphic Design/etc (This Major's Salary over time)
For an education in Visual Communications (or Graphic Design), Gibbs College is not a good school at all. Try a traditional college. All the faculty there is nice. I mean, everyone is pretty fun. No problems with them. The problem with Gibbs College is this:In their courses, they often say, The problem is that they don't provide an actual education ON graphic design. They just teach you the programs like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, QuarkXpress, etc. That is NOT what graphic design is and sadly, it's not even enough to get you an entry level production job. Their placement percentage was less than 6 percent or so. The courses are totally devoid of art or design principles, which is what a graphic design education really is about. The books for the graphic design courses aren't really used in the courses. The instructors basically just "wing it" and sparingly, VERY sparingly use the books at any point. This is the truth. I have nothing to lie about. The design courses in of themselves are very… lacking. They just show you how to do certain things in a program, very small things at that. Like I said before, they are lacking in design principles, depth, and in understanding in general. This type of "crash course" school on something as deep as graphic design is really misleading. What Gibbs College does is try to teach you a lot about everything by teaching you a little bit of many programs but it is so little, it is of no real use in the real world. You may think, "Hey, that's impossible! They're a college!" but it IS possible and it is the truth. What they "teach" you can not land you a job because it is SO little. For example, in my 3-D Animation class, NO ONE finished their 3-D model. We used Lightwave and had a pretty good instructor (he works on the graphics for Jay Leno) but we learned so little that is wasn't enough to get a job. It wasn't his fault though. He was great. Gibbs College just SUCKS.Gibbs College is a Career Education Corporation (C.E.C.)school. AVOID Career Education Corporation schools.
