I was shocked at the UofH institute when I first came to Hawaii. The campus is big, but some of the buildings are run-down. Like somebody said, the sinclair library is a joke…no air conditioner, and the open windows allow bugs to get into the building. The dorms are a complete joke too. I couldn't even get housing, and sheesh..I'm an out-of-state resident. And speaking of being an out-of-state student, you will feel outcasted by the local students because of the way they act versus the way you act. And yes, to a point, if you'r a minority, you're accepted. But that's not true. I'm a minority student, and the local people here don't like the way I talk…since I don't use pidgin english (which is of no use..because you can't get a decent job speaking that 3rd-class language). The weather here is sunny and great for going to the beach. Waikiki is about 15 minutes away from the Manoa campus. The downside to the Hawaii weather is it tends to get humid at times,…and I have to shower 3x's a day! Some of the classes here are so damn big…you're just a number in the crowd. I have had some friendly instructors, but the rest were rude or close-minded towards me. The Hawaii legislator should spend more money and invest in UofH rather than investing taxpayers' money into their own pockets. This is the reason why I'm tranferring to UC Berkeley this coming fall.
