I cant say Ive enjoyed my time at Auburn. The school and the social scene have been a major disappointment. To start off with most of my classes have had around 200 people in them. A lot have had 400. How they come up with that 16 to 1 student faculty ratio is what I wanna know. You'll be told by the school that your classes will thin out once you get in your major but its a bunch of crap. Getting individual attention is almost impossible and if you have a problem…well your just screwed. I would say about 40% of the faculty including GTA's cant speak english. The math department is the biggest offender.GTA's who have no business teaching teach a large portion of the classes. Its seems as though the curriculum consists mainly of busy work. They're constantly shoving new crap down your throat but there is never any substance. There were about 6 people asking what a monoprotic and diprotic acid was before my gen Chem 2 lab final. I knew about these acids from taking gen chem at another university. But obviously after 2 semesters of general chem at auburn these people had no clue.People are not very friendly at auburn and unless your from the general area you will have a difficult time making friends. The majority of people who go to auburn are from alabama and georgia. They go to college with the same people they went to high school with and they arent really interested or willing to meet new people.Im not from the south and I've found that southern hospitality only applies to other southerners. Basically if you want to have a social life you have to buy friends by joining a fraternity or sorority. The reputation that alabama has for being redneck and backwoods is well deserved. As another out of stater at Troy said My best advice is to stay away from auburn. Not unless you want to take calculus from a guy from ukraine who cant speak english. Auburn its an experience you'll never forget.
