Being a student a Clemson was the best experience I have had so far. Everyone talks about the "Clemson family" when you visit the school, and at the time I didn't understand what it meant. But Clemson University really is a large family. When one of the apartment buildings close to campus bruned down in a fire, the university immediately helped out. People all over town offered students places to stay, and so many Clemson students donated clothes and other items to people who lost everything in the fire, that the university had to tell people to stop donating, because there were too many items donated already. There is even a program called "Tiger Claus" - where a faculty member can anonymously donate money to a student they feel needs it, for Christmas. The students are friendly, charming, outgoing, and fun-loving, and although it is a fairly large school, its not overwhelming, and you see friends everywhere you go. Most of your professors want to learn your name, and help you out. President Barker is very approachable, and enhoys meeting students, and talking to them one on one. He as even been known to go and join a frisbee game on Bowman. The town is small, but has a wonderful atmosphere and southern charm. As a liberal, I sometimes felt that most people in the area were very conservative - but you will find that at any school in the south. And it isn't really a problem - people don't base their friends on their political views. Some people say that there isn't anything to do in Clemson - but I never spent a boring weekend there. Although there are only a few bars, I think it's better that way. You always see friends, wherever you go. You learn about the specials (Mexi Monday at the Esso, Cheap pizza and alcohol at Backstreets, Dollar Burgers at TD's), and you even learn the bouncers and bartenders. And you might run into some cool professors too.Football at Clemson is absolutely amazing. I have been to games at other schools, and there is nothing you can compare it to. When the Tigers run down the hill at the beginning of the game, it really is the most exciting 25 seconds in college football. The friends I made there will be my friends for the rest of my life. I love them, and I am so grateful that I met them, and I will treasure the experiences I had at Clemson for the rest of my life. I recently moved to another school, in another state, and I miss Clemson every single day. There is something special about Clemson that you won't find anywhere else.
