Grove City College is an excellent, competitive institution. However, there are some problems. For one, nobody outside of western Pennsylvania has heard of the school, thus making students wonder why they have to work so hard, since employers may not recognize the difficulty of the curriculum.

Social life is nearly non-existent outside of the Greek system. There are around 8 fraternities and around the same amount of sororities of varying degrees of usefulness to the college. Every Greek group on campus contributes to some sort of philanthropy and on-campus event. While the Greek system is smaller at GCC than it has been in years past, thanks to changing demographics and hostility from the administration, fraternities and sororities are still vibrant and useful to the college.

There is also a parallel system of "housing groups." Housing groups are often described as "wannabe fraternities." These groups of students live together and wear Greek letters but do not pledge, have traditions, or contribute much to the campus. Housing groups give some GCC men the feeling that they belong to a fraternity without having to do any work or keep any longstanding loyalties.

Grove City College feels like an Ivy League university, but without the recognition or liberal politics.
