Major: Education (This Major's Salary over time)
I came to this university in a program designed for people who had already received a degree somewhere else. The program is designed to lure Detroit education students away from universities closer to home.It is called the Urban Teacher Certification Program. The university registration system does not recognize credits earned from other universities. Therefore, transfer students in this program must seek a electronic release from a very busy advisor EVERY TIME he or she tries to register. This often guarantees that the class will be closed by time the release is granted, thus prolonging the time spent in this education program. This program lures Detroiters thirty miles away to the campus with the promise of distance campuses closer to home. However, there are only approximately four classes offered at the distance campuses. Detroit students are then manipulated into driving 60 miles for every day they have a class on campus as commuter students. This after working full time jobs. They pay high prices for parking permits, just to be unable to find a parking space. This program has the potential to cause hardships on Detroiters. However, the school is only interested in tapping a market that was closed to them before. I have only seen this university work hard when it was getting cash out of the students. One freshman level class came up to almost $1000.00 after the tuition and massive fees were lumped together. This is more than a Graduate level class at Wayne state University in Detroit. If I had known what I know now, I never would have enrolled in this University.
