I'm generally satisfied with my experience here at Sam, particularly because of the friendly people, the attractive campus, and the genuine care that the professors demonstrate. I think this university is starting to improve as a whole, and I think that it will be a good place and time to look back upon.

I'm a bit concerned at the lack of academic rigor here. Although the professors are good, and care a great deal about their students, I feel they are selling the department (the History department) short by grading very easy. Some of the work turned in, even by the graduate students, is exceptionally below par and probably would not pass at all at another one of the state's more reputable universities such as Texas or A&M. That being said, it is possible to get a good education here, particularly if you do what you need to do, but be warned that there will be many people that graduate along with you with only a slightly worse GPA, even though they did a hellof a lot work. I probably would not recommend the graduate program, tho, as the students are surprisingly ill-prepared—I'll have to go somewhere else for graduate training to be taken seriously.

Other than that, I wish people would stay around a bit on weekends and support the football team. I people really got behind it, maybe D1A would come into the picture, which would really help the university stand out.

Again, don't get me wrong. I gave the university a "positive" review because as a whole, this place will really be a great experience and I'll get a lot out of it. Although there are problems, I think the university is slowly addressing these and will come out in very good shape in the end.
