Like most large universities, Ohio State is what you make of it. Almost immediately, I got involved in a club sports team and a few other organizations, so I haven't had difficulty making friends or finding my niche. Conversely, I know quite a few kids who aren't involved in anything and, although a good number of them seem happy, many of them are bored and miserable too.It seems that there's nothing to do here but drink and talk about A.J. Hawk, Jim Tressel and the gang, but that's not completely true. Sure, most people love parties and Buckeye football, but the campus is so huge and there are so many people, you can find people like you if you try. GET INVOLVED. Personally, I'll drink once every three weeks or so, and I don't feel that my social life suffers during those 20 days of sobriety. Although I'm a football fan, I've met students who don't particularly care about it and they seem to be able to cope.Schoolwork is suprisingly hard, but manageable. The stereotype that everybody here is only a number is both true and false. Professors and TA's are available to help if you're having trouble, but only if you ask them. Also, because of the quarter system, classes seem to pass by very quickly. If you come here, make sure that you stay ahead of your work. I'm an Honors student and thus I get priority scheduling, but kids who aren't in Honors or Varsity Athletes routinely get locked out of classes because the spots for common classes, like Calculus, Biology, Spanish, etc. are taken quickly. Have plenty of back-up classes if this happens to you.
