I
came into Mannes halfway through my undergraduate degree. ALthough it
was quite different from my previous school (much more traditional
and straight-edged classically oriented), I learned to love all the
positive aspects. The piano faculty (i am a pianist) and
theory/composition faculty are unbelievable, and the small environment allows you
to get to know these people without being a number.
All in all, mannes really is a nurturing environment with
a great educational experience. The only down side—it does not,
in any way, prepare you for the reality of trying
to be a musician in new york city.
