What can I say about Denial Webster College? Well, that's not a typo. I'll explain further down. First I'll give you some background. I graduated from highschool in May 2005 and my heart set on a challenging Computer Science degree. I visited the school several times and got a great feel for the people there. The majority are laid back and friendly. On parent's weekend, my folks came up from Massachusettes and we relaxed and watched football with the Dean of Admissions and his family. I can't state how much I like some of the people there. The campus is beautiful - rain or snow or sun - it still amazes me. I knew going in that it was primarily a flight school (Note: If you are a flight student, the flight facilities are great and kids transfer in from the big flight school in florida - I forget the name of it, sorry!) but I did not realize that the Computer Science program wouldn't be as rigorous as they had stated. I was put into Algebra which put me off considering I took calculus in highschool but I was told it was for my own good. Well, I ended that with an average in the high 90's or 100's. I even corrected the professor on many occasions (but don't get me wrong - he's a VERY nice man). Overall, I can't see myself being challenged.

Challenge comes in different forms at DWC than expected. The challenge is not getting sucked into the relaxed atmosphere. People are so relaxed that they forget to do things. Even if you yourself are not relaxed, you have to constantly be on people to get things done which is complicated by the fact that is usually people of higher ranks or people you don't know or haven't even met. I warn people about this because I received a D in a class called "Strategies for Sucess". It's basically an extended orientation taught by a puppet of the person running the class for all the students. It's a lot like a highschool health class. It has that "get it out of the way and do the work" mentality. A lot of the work is actually attending events and doing community service. Keep in mind, this class counts towards your GPA. So come the end of the term, I checked my grades online and found that there was a D in the box for the grade. It was surely a mistake. With 4 days left before school got out, I contacted the person who ran the class who told me to contact the leader of my personal class. Well, it's now Jan 5th and I just got the email that my request to rightfully change a grade due to my teachers error in not counting an activity and another person's error in not reporting any of my 5 community service hours has been denied by the class instructor and the president of the college. That means the D will be the only thing keeping me from having a 4.0 GPA when I return to classes.

My college experience there was very mixed. If you happen to be touring in this spring 2006 semester (my last one at the school), you may very well see my room. My roomate gives tours and our room is often used as an example in freemont. My name is Nick and feel free for the real low-down on Denial Webster College (affraid to admit flight ops is their only major).
