Major: Nursing (This Major's Salary over time)
The Mount is one of the few school that lets just say
meet the needs of some students
If students need more time on tests, need tests or homework read to them, alot of extra help, etc., then this is the school for them. I find myself to be an average student; english and social sciences I do well in, math and science Im kinda weak in. So when I was not only accepted into the nursing program with a scholarship with a B average and low math and science scores, I was quite surprised, but later realized why.
My heart goes out to students who find what most students find easy, difficult. As a nursing student, I know how disappointing it can be to study extremely hard, to make barely average grades.

However, I must say that one of the major adjustments when coming to the Mount was dealing with the student body. I felt that most of the students (perhaps 75%) were pretty much at a Jr. High level in most subjects such as math and english. Most of them can barely spell and cant add without a calculator. I felt that I was at the top of my class in every class that I took, and I felt that I was not being challenged. I was not used to being out- numbered by students who needed special help, and I felt that I wasnt gaining the total college experience.

Most of the students here are very dependant on their parents, and go home just about every weekend. There is nothing to do on campus, ever. The town of Newburgh has an extremely high crime rate, and the only fun, "college thing to do" is go to a bar in the middle of the high crimed town and hope not to get jumped or followed back to campus. The only fun, safe things to do are to is to pay about forty dollars to take a cab into Poughkeepsie and go to a bar or club there or perhaps a show at Marist College.

THe maintence is terrible, they only fix the new bulidings, which is the schools main appeal. Also, on the weekends, just about the entire campus is closed. With the excption of brunch and dinner, there is no where to get food. The library closes extremely early, as does the gym, and there is no one on campus, perhaps this is why most of the students choose to go home. I would only return to the mount if I had some type of learning disability, which the Mount would more than meet my needs.
