Major: Political Science (This Major's Salary over time)
I would not trade my experience and colelge career at NIU for any other school. I have been to University of Illinois and other Illinois schools and i am still happy with my decision. There are a lot of organizations, clubs, fraternities/sororities, etc. for students to get involved with. I am constantly surprised with the level of knowledge and ability of teachers to teach classes in an interesting manner. NIU has a solid core of alumni in Chicago and the west suburbs of Illinois. NIU has highly respected in many areas. NIU has undergraduate programs in business and accounting that are Top 10 in the nation. NIU is top 5 in the world for its Southeast Asian studies program. NIU's engineering program is top 30. NIU graduates more teachers in Illinois than any other public/private school in the state. NIU has one of the top nursing programs in the state. NIU's Public Adminstration graduate program is top 5 in the nation. I have heard many good things about NIU's music and biology programs. My experience in the Political Science Department as a major has been one of the best. Some people may say that there isn't much to do in DeKalb, but that is not very true. NIU Football is the life of the campus during college football season (September through December) as NIU has the best D-1A football program in the state of Illinois. There is nothing like having an atmosphere of 30,000 Huskie fans screaming and cheering at football games! Then there is basketball season in the winter which is also a lot of fun at the NIU Convocation Center. All of this combined with being active in organizations, having friends, and staying at NIU during the weekends will provide students with many options of entertainment.
