Georgia Southern University. Construct a decent University on an isolated island surrounded by a small town with small minded inbred rednecks. That's GSU in a nutshell.

If you are looking for a town that has a lot of fun activities to do, look elsewhere. Statesboro is located in SE Georgia where there is nothing but hot unbearable weather to keep you entertained. But if you enjoy getting piss drunk everynight of the week there are plenty of trashy bars and clubs to go to which are literally right across the street from campus.

The student population is mostly white with quite a large percentage of Black students compared to other Georgia state schools. It is unfortunate that the town of Statesboro is inherently racist, otherwise I would recommend this school for minorities. You have you typical unintellectual frat and sorority population with the rest of your "Joe College" idiots. That pretty much makes up the student body - a bunch of idiots.

The school itself is quite good. There are plenty of majors to choose from and it seems each department is on top of its game, except for the arts departments which seem to be lackluster (maybe its because of the town?). Nursing and Education seem to be popular majors here with a good bit of money going into these departments. You aren't a number at the school and are treated well. It is easy to get to know your professors because almost all of them are available at any given moment. As for classes, most of them I have taken really aren't that challenging. GSU has the same core curriculum as the rest of Georgia's public schools, so if you want to avoid a community college and get your core classes out of the way, GSU might be a good option.

Right now GSU is undergoing some major facelifts (trying to keep up with UGA and a burgeoning population). Currently being constructed is a massive library extension, as well as an addition to the student gym. I am sure that more buildings are waiting to be constructed.

In a nutshell, if you are really intent on coming to this school - go for it; if you can stand the boring town and dumb redneck student population. Otherwise, look elsewhere - maybe UGA or Georgia State (schools located next to civilization).
