I, like about 85-90% of the people who go to Gordon, love it. The main complaints heard about it is from 1) sheltered kids who believe that it is too liberal and 2)Overly independant kids who think that it is too closeminded and conservative. Because of this, one can conclude that because of these two extremes, that Gordon must fall in the middle as far as it's social and academic morals. As a student, I atest that, from my own observation, this is completely true. For the former group of kids I mentioned, a school like Bob Jones or Pensacola Christian might be a better fit; for that latter…well, just about any secular school in the country!

Politically, Gordon does not really take much of a stance. However, since Christians tend to be more conservative, Gordon tends to be a little bit right of center. Since that's where I place myself, I have very little quarrel with this, and I am glad that for the most part, Gordon stays out of this…I wish more colleges would. Individual professors will often give their opinions, but they welcome debate.

Theologically, Gordon takes a stance of

Where the scriptures speak, we speak, where they are silent, we are silent.
While the school does sometimes offer opinions on things not in scripture, they do not enforce any morality rules. Most of the rules here have nothing to do with that.

Rules: Unlike BJU, PCC, or a host of other Christian schools, Gordon's rules are pretty lax. There is no real dress code to speak of, and very few people here dress badly in the first place, so there is no need. Porn, of course, is not allowed, and there are a few restrictions on the internet. However, if there is an objection to a blocked site, a student can email in protest (I actually got one reversed!). Music with a lot of language usually is discouraged, but not disallowed. You'll only get in trouble for playing it too loud and not turning it down at the RA's request. Movies are unrestricted, so long as they are not pornographic. There is no curfew. The only problem I have is with visiting hours, when are too short (5-10pm M-R, 5pm-12am F, 1-12 Sat, 1-10pm Sun) but guys and girls can meet in the lounge when they end. Homosexuality, premarital sex or sex acts, alcohol, and tobacco are not allowed on campus, and (aside from alcohol) are discouraged off campus.

The work here is very hard, I must say. But, I would expect the same at any Ivy League school, or any private school for that matter.

Anyway, there's a LONG review, I hope it's helpful. Gordon is a great school any way you look at it. I would highly recommend it!
