If you make it through Alverno College, you'll have a degree that means something. It is an outstanding college that promotes the strength of women, and that is truly something at attracted me to this college. With a lot of women, though, comes the petty gossip and general bitchery. It is particularly bad in the residence halls, because people literally have nothing better to do than talk about one another. The social scene here is almost non-existant, so after the first couple of months, you will see many people begin to get stir-crazy.There are clubs to participate in, but the student participation is minimal at best. The school does make an honest attempt to involve all of the students, but most of them are simply not willing. For example, there is a theater group, but it only has room for 6 (SIX!!!) members. They don't even put on actual productions. Our sports teams? If you don't like to win, they're great. The food. Decent. The same as most other colleges/universities/summer camps. The residence halls? Don't expect a hot shower. Ever. And everyone on campus knows that your closet doors will NEVER stay on the hinges. Seriously. We have a Residence Hall Association, but they don't actually do anything. The Page Board does a decent job of setting up performers in our coffeehouse on Wednesdays, but that really is the only enjoyable social activity on campus. There are earnest attempts made by other groups on campus (such as foreign films and various volunteer opportunities)but, like I said, they don't flourish because of lack of student involvement.Overall, if you can survive the pettiness inherent in the student body, complete lack of social life, and cold showers, your degree and real-world experience gained here will do you a real service in your career.
