I graduated from Cornell quite some time ago so take this into consideration.

I loved my time at Cornell. I was from an average high school in the south. I was very intimidated when I first got to Cornell - - all those Long Island people really freaked me out. However, once I got over that and started studying and finding my nitche, I did great. I got fabulous grades, good MCAT scores and got into a top medical school. Some of those same people who intimidated my initally didn't do as well as I did as it turned out.

One thing that helped me was that I had an NROTC scholarship and that put me in a small group that really cared about me. Even though I quit NROTC to presue my medical school asperations I remained friends with ROTC's throughout school. I also joined a sorority. Both things helped bring Cornell down to size for me. With this base I was able to excell academically. AND I had a great time socially too.

If you are smart you can do well here, even if you didn't go to a big name prep school. Make a point of getting involved with a small group that you can be bonded with your 4 years. The campus is wonderful, the range of courses you can take is unequalled. And don't let the blow hards intimidate you. It's amazing at the end of the four years who gets into the good grad schools and who doesn't. It's not who you might think.
