Major: Education (This Major's Salary over time)
University of Hawaii at Mania (UHM) is located in Honolulu, Hawaii. To its credit there are many excellent programs and professors here. The problem is that there is currently almost no one to provide a roadmap for finishing. This semester, Spring 2006, there is one advisor for every 1500 undergraduate students. Graduate students have more access to advising but the quality, in my experience, is poor. I suggest that students interested in getting a degree in Hawaii attend Kapiolani Community College which is part of the University of Hawaii system, is affordable (compared to UH Manoa recently ranked in the top five as most expensive in relation to the quality of education received), and has several excellent AA degrees and certificates, get their AA degree and finish their Bachelor and Graduate degrees somewhere other than UH Manoa. In my opinion, UH Manoa is an Agricultural College (a cow college) which treats students as 'cash cows.' One high-ranking Administrator told me that Academic Freedom is for Professors—not for Students. In my opinion, UHM is like Hotel California: Once you enter, you will never leave.
