Don't come here. Just don't do it, trust me. I consider myself so lucky that I haven't been arrested this year. All my friends have been arrested and taken to jail for minor consumption. They have a court date they have to appear for during the summmer, which is inconvenient for any out of state student that gets arrested. A few weeks ago, the Student Escort Van got pulled over and everyone inside was breathalized, and taken to jail. There was recently a protest of VUPD on campus which over 600 people attended, they were responding to the VUPD entering a fraternity house with guns drawn. (refer to wikipedia and search Valparaiso University, VUPD has it's own section) You don't have to be acting dumb to get arrested, one person I know was having a cig and propping the side door open, a cop came up and claimed to be checking the door to make sure it was working okay. He smelled alcohol, breathalized, kid blew .01, end of story. Jail time, hundreds of dollars in bail money and legal fees. It's hard to beleive that any college could be like this, but it's the truth. It's really like bizarro world. I have stopped drinking, it's just not worth the risk. Most kids sit in their dorm rooms all weekend watching TV since there is nothing to do on campus, and if you drink you will be arrested. The cops go out of their way to bust any kid. They spy on the liqour store and enter when they think someone underage has gone in. Someone else i know was driving on campus going 15 mph, and got pulled over for speeding and breathalized. Another kid I know was talking to his GF on his cell phone in the parking lot, and a cop came up to his car window and banged on it with a billyclub, told the kid hes not allowed to be talking on the phone in the parking lot, and breathalized him. When I took a campus visit here, and I heard it was a dry campus, I thought it would be pretty lenient and chill like other dry campuses I know of. Nothing could be further from the truth. The cops here are Nazis, the RA's are trained to be Nazis, and it's just not worth it coming here. They offer a freshman "core" class, which the credits don't transfer, and it's a 5 credit course. So I'm pretty much stuck here. Oh yeah, and the chicks are so ugly it's not even funny. There are no social events, no parties, nothing. If you come here be prepared to sit in your room all weekend for 4 years. Or drink and fear the cops every second. They are allowed in the dorms!!! They walk through!!! I have never heard of any college having their own police force (gestapo) walking through the dorms, arresting anyone who is drinking. Supposedly this is a good school, so I am hoping to get a good job once I get out. Of course, if you have an arrest record, that kind of defeats the purpose. My point is there are schools that offer way more of a social life for a fraction of the price. Trust me, I was tricked into coming here. A common thing you hear on the weekends is "this place sucks ass" or "This was the worst mistake of my life" or "I can't wait to get out of this shithole." Everyone talks about possibly transfering, but for the most part if you come here you are stuck, like me. Just don't come here, seriously. If you like to party and drink, this is the wrong place for you. By the way, even 21 year olds can get in trouble for drinking here, that's how fucked up this place is. Cops stake out bars and arrest students for "public intox". This place is just a joke, I'm so fed up with it I could scream. There needs to be some kind of release for students on the weekends when we work hard all week. Unfortunatly, this place does not offer that. This place is like High School, only gayer. Seriously, the Fraternitys and Sororitys have "formals" which is like a wannabe homecoming dance. And this place has a yearbook, who has ever heard of a college having a yearbook. Man, this place just blows. Just don't come here, okay?
