Major: Business - Management and Administration (This Major's Salary over time)
The University of Miami CAN be a great place to spend four years of your life as an undergrad, but you must be aware of what you are getting yourself into. In terms of the academics, the business program at least is manageable enough, and professors are pretty intelligent and accesible overall. I don't view the courseload as particularly challenging, but its certainly not a cakewalk. In terms of socially, you either fit in or you don't, period. Kids here have money and LOVE to show it off. If you are the type of person with high self esteem and was pretty popular in high school, you should fit in perfectly here. The more intellectual crowd may have trouble finding the atmosphere they were looking for. The Greek system is nothing special here, and if you join a frat or sorority you will find yourself surrounded by a snobby, steroetypical "abercrombie" crowd. (Not to say the parties aren't fun and the people aren't beautiful) There are genuinely good people at this school, but many of them are too concerned with what car they are driving or what club they are going too to chill out and actually generate real friendships. Another warning to prospective Canes, drugs are everywhere around UM and in the city, so be careful as there is a fine line between experimentation and addiction. In conclusion I have more or less enjoyed my tenure at UM so far, in particualr lovin our football team and the beautiful campus and city. I have viewed it more as a personal journey into a different culture then I was accustomed more than "the best 4 years of my life." But this is not a college town, and it is certainly not for every college student. Think hard about what kind of person you are, and if the "hot and trendy scene" is for you.
