The school has about a 90% drinking rate. If you enjoy having good clean fun, this is not your place to be. There are good looking girls on campus, but they're not so good looking in the huge jackets all winter long. The surrounding city is awful, nothing to do at all. If you are looking at this college to get a good education, go someplace worth your time.

The drinking rate back in the late 80s early 90s was so high that UMaine was rated one of the top drinking schools in the USA, they tried to clean that up but I think they hid a lot of it and covered it up because while I was there most studnets drank a lot and a few of my instructors came to class buzzed. Recently two UMaine Public Saftey officers got arrested in campground for stealing a golf cart and driving it around drunk, the UMaine Officers were bulligerant to local police and were arrested. Other mysterious unidentifiable drugs were found on the UMaine officers that were vacationing at the Maine camp ground. They were reported as becoming hostile to local police and uncooperative. One of which is named Officer Curtis. The UMaine public safety has been said by a few students to have unhelpful arrogant and condecending officers and detectives. UMaine is basically a drunks college.

Almost ALL COLLEGES are drinking schools. It doesn't matter where you go its the college atmosphere.

I'm thinking about going to UMaine in the Fall of 2012 as a transfer. I'm from Central NY and I thought that I would like the different dynamic that umaine has to offer. However a lot of these entries about the school is scaring me. I'm very openminded as well as friendly and I would appreciate it if you could email me or something to just talk about your time there. _email_removed_
