Antisemitism was quite apparent at the Peabody Institute among students and to a lesser degree among faculty. I remember an incident of vandalism involving a Nazi swastika right and a star of David. To my knowledge the administration did absolutely nothing about it. I remember two professors who actually made "Nazi" jokes. Their indifference to antisemitic, anti-black, and anti-Asian student comments also served to promote an environment of intolerance.Additionally, the only member of the voice faculty who attended my senior recital was my own voice teacher. The others graded me by listening to a tape. My parents paid far too much money for the experience I had at Peabody. If you are Jewish, African American, or Asian, consider a different school.
