If
you're going to UMD because you didn't get into Ann
Arbor or any other school, you probably aren't going to
be happy. Period. However... if you are a potential
student that LIKES the campus, prospective program, and the commuter
college experience, UMD is nice! A lot better than
attending a community college. You'll still feel like you're
a part of the University experience by attending any UM
Sporting events in Ann Arbor...
And actually, it's easy to
get involved in the student activities. People are very
friendly, and the clubs have really open memberships. If
you make an effort to try and get involved, you'll
find that you'll get to know a lot of people
on campus and you'll have a lot of fun.
I'm
not into the Greek scene, but there's actually a big
sorority/frat community on campus that has a lot of fun
and hosts lots of events.
Academic-wise, there are no TAs
in my department, very nice. Most of the staff
is really helpful and experienced.
Parking sucks... and
so does commuting to the SoE building. The workout
center is too small, and the UMD sports teams aren't
too involved/exciting.
Overall, if you WANT to go here, then
you'd probably like it. I find people that hate
it here never wanted to go here in the first
place... I chose UMD over UM-AA because I wanted to
stay home.
