In terms of the town and surrounding area it definitely helps to have a car or a friend with one. there is a lot to do, but it is kind of spread out. The students at Bennington are awesome-friendly, smart and creative. It is a very supportive atmosphere, socially and academically. While at first it can seem that there is not enough here-classes, professors, clubs, people, etc.-eventually you realize that you don't even have enough time (4 years) to take advantage of all that is available to you. Even at a big university where you are surrounded by tons of things, you still only have 4 years and 24 hours in a day. It is an illusion that you can really do more there. I think, also, one of the great advantages of Bennington, and similar schools, is the chance to do so much interdisciplinary work. It is the wave of the future that we keep reading and hearing about. People are going to have to be more creative and flexible in the future and that is what Bennington teaches you is possible. I highly recommend the school. It only gets better the longer you are here.
