HPU is great in a sense that many of its classes are small. Small enough to get to know your instructor, and for your instructor to know you. It really helps when you need an LOR from them. On the other hand, some of the instructors are dickheads or simply idiots. I asked a professor to write me an LOR for med school. Guess what? He made some spelling errors in my LOR! Sheesh! The downside to HPU is the downtown campus. It is not a campus, but just buildings in the downtown Honolulu financial vicinity. There are also filthy bums, freaks and weirdos lingering around the Fort Street Mall area. I even feel intimidated walking to my car in the parking because there are several bums who like to get their $$$ from HPU students via harrassment. There was also a shooting incident near the downtown campus in early July due to prostitutes lingering in that area.As somebody already mentioned, there's not much school spirit here at HPU. The basketball team is division III, and the locals in Hawaii only root for UH sports. Heck, HPU doesn't even have a football team, not even a division 4 football team! Hardly anybody goes to the basketball games. The only decent athletic sports at HPU is the women's softball, volleyball, and the men's soccer team. That's pretty much it.Lastly, I've seen the dorm rooms at the Hawaii Loa campus. They are not even considered dorms! The bathroom is private and you are expected to clean your own bathroom, whereas my friend at another college on the mainland has public restrooms cleaned by janitors on a daily basis on weekdays!
