Major: Business - Management and Administration (This Major's Salary over time)
Overall, MTU has been a good choice for me. Granted, if you have a major problem with snow and/or cold weather five to six months out of the year, you'll probably want to think twice about coming up here. The campus is compact and well-maintained, but still has the feeling of a large public university. In my experience to date, Tech's School of Business & Econ. is pretty solid. Of course, you will have entry-level business classes that seem easy and are full of busy work, but you still have required math, science and arts classes to challenge you as a freshman. By the time you are a sophomore, you should start to run into some reasonably challenging courses in the department itself. The student-to-faculty ratio is very good, and with the exception of some large, intro-level science and liberal arts classes, most of your professors will know you by name.Houghton/Hancock aren't exactly nightlife hotspots, but if you are willing to seek out events, you can still have plenty of fun after your homework is done. There are parties and sporting events on weekends, plenty of outdoor activities to partake in, and student organizations for almost every interest. There are university-sponsored events like K-Day in September or Winter Carnival in February. MTU also invested quite a bit of money in a brand new performing arts venue about five years ago, and there are frequent shows to attend, at reasonable prices. If you're into things like shopping or nightclubs though, you'll probably want to look elsewhere.I read an earlier comment about arrogance from engineering students towards business majors. I won't lie - MTU is a top-notch engineering school and arrogance does exist, but in my view, it's more of a long-standing joke than anything serious.Overall, MTU has been a learning experience worthy of my time and money.
