The good:

If you are smart and ambitious, WPI is a place that will do amazing things for your career. There are plenty of wanna-be engineers, doctors, scientists, lawyers, investment bankers, etc. With a great GPA and letters of recommendation you can get into the top schools/firms. I personally was accepted into the Dept of Theoretical Physics and Applied Mathematics at Cambridge, i.e. Hawking's dept!

If you are "ivy league" material and interested in science/engineering, definetely consider WPI as an alternative. WPI is a good school, but there aren't too, too many brilliant people here. You have a chance to stand out in the crowd for sure (big fish small pond). Espicially if you are a girl..because you will probably be able to get creme-de-la-crop of a man and a nice financial aid package.

There are not too many rich arrogant kids here. Ya know, the ones going to college just to party and get an easy major…most of the students are middle class and trying to get a good job and do something with their life.

WPI is very accepting and nurturing to "geeks". If you would associate yourself with that label, this is probably a great school for you. I've seen plenty of insecure and geeky people turn into natural leaders and go-getters in their tenure at WPI.

The bad:

Assuming you are not in at least the 95th percentile of looks (for guys), you probably are not going to meet women here. Sure, some people might write in their review

…what do you plan to do? Go to their library and stalk people?

Most people prefer to meet members of the opposite sex casually through things like extra-curriculars, classes, the dining hall. If you are a guy, this is probably just not going to happen. Your best chance would be to join a frat, but then you need to have "party skills". Ex..say you are on a dance floor..what do you wear, how do you approach women, are they interested, etc. Be prepared for four years of sexless existence..lol.

WPI is very apathetic in terms of politics and anything else non-technical. There aren't too many "thinkers" here. Everyone is a problem solver. It can be tough to find people with different viewpoints…diversity is definetely at a low at this school.

You will also have to work hard…but in the end it will be worth it (financially). As long as you keep a 3.0 + GPA, you will be just fine. Of course, not everyone can do that, but if you can, it will be worth it.
