I chose SMU because of it's prestigious reputation, beautiful campus, and proximity to the fantastic Dallas area. Unfortunately, my expectations have not been met by far. The student body is almost surreal. 95% of the girls here have Daddy's credit card, a $50,000 car, and wardrobes comparable to Paris Hilton's. The boys all look like they stepped off a sailboat, with shaggy hair, Ralph Lauren polos, beer in hand and a closet stocked with North Face jackets. If you don't believe this, come to campus and walk around for a few hours. A lot of students are from uppity Dallas suburbs (think Highland Park) and came to SMU for the Greek experience and socially uppity scene, not for academics or God forbid, an education. In my years here, I have even seen a couple $150,000+ Bentleys and Aston Martins being driven by STUDENTS. This all being said, I really feel that your typical college student who begs Mom and Dad for money would not feel comfortable or accepted here. Money is just so huge here (it's not called "Southern Millionaires University" for nothing.) Social life largely revolves around being Greek. If you are a guy who's broke and not in a fraternity, you can seriously forget about nabbing any of these gold-digging females. I feel like my academic experience has been good, but not worth the $40,000 a year I'm shelling out to go here. I feel like I could have gotten a comparable (or even better) experience at UT.
