My daughter is considering going to this school as she has already been accepted. We await word from UF. She will major in civil engineering. I am shocked at the volume of negative comments about this university. As a U of PIttsburgh grad, I want my daughter to get a solid education. Many complain about not getting employed after getting a degree at UCF in engineering as it is viewed as substandard. How would you respond? thanks from a concerned father wanting to help make a good choice. |
If you don't send your kid to UF you will regret it UF has one of the best engineering program sin the country and the number 1 career services in engineering its a fact call them or look it up, ucf is full of immature people and you can work hard and still get treated like crap, I lived in Florida for 15 years ucf always has a bad reputation |
UF is a crazy exceptional school all these positive reviews are just UF rejects who are trying to make their degree better than what it is ^ I agree with the above ucf is not even respected in Orlando and no one has heard of ucf trust me its a glorified community college |
Major: Electrical Engineering (This Major's Salary over time)
My situation was different than most. After getting out of the military, I had to go to start my degree at a community college. I finished my core Engineering classes at Valencia and transferred to UCF as an Electrical Engineering major. Having said that, if you get an AA, you can pretty much transfer to any of the Florida public institutions but not always the program of your choice. I graduated in 2004 so EE requirements may have changed. I know they just build a brand new Eng 3 building strictly for EE and CE majors. I really enjoyed my time at UCF and I'm hoping my kids go there as well. There are a lot of UCF alum in Orlando, so if you're looking to do an internship or a job after graduation at a Fortune 500 engineering company such as Lockheed, Northrop Grumman, Siemens, and Harris, if you go to UCF you'll have an in with them since I work with many of them and we hire a lot of UCF engineering grads. I know Lockheed Martin even does an annual Coaches Presentation with George O'Leary. I had a lot of great Eng professors at UCF and they all prepared my well for my future as an EE. UCF is spending millions of dollars in improvements and new buildings, a 12K person basketball arena, on campus football stadium, on-campus housing, and without a doubt, it will soon be a flagship university in the state. Besides, downtown Orlando (churchstreet) is a great place party at night.
