Great review |
My mother taught a young girl in Bourbon Missouri who is a Wellesley alum. Wellesley is in my top list for schools but I am concerned about my area of interest - biology/sustainability/environmental science. An all girls school seems difficult. I also study piano and write and sing; and, (I know this may sound corny) I truly want to save the world in terms of food/agri revolution. So I've chosen an impoverished life and I have concerns about spending my mother's retirement on school. Thoughts? Maria |
Major: Biology (This Major's Salary over time)
I loved Wellesley, but it took a couple years to aclamate to the social atmosphere. I disagree with some people's comments that there is "no social life" at Wellesley. I went to several fun parties, such as "beer and poetry," that my friend hosted, Shakespeare Society parties, and scary story telling parties that I hosted with a friend. The point is, if you are willing to put time and effort into MAKING social occasions, then you can meet cool people and have fun. From my experience, there were not many successful, typical college parties centered around drinking and boys (though you can find that if you want, but you will probably have to go off-campus and make friends with frat boys, who aren't that bad.) Anyway, my friends at Wellesley were some of the strongest, most lively, creative, and awesome women that I have ever known. I will always keep in touch with them. Sure there are some wrotten apples- anti-social, overly amibitious, unfriendly people at Wellesley, but you will find that anywhere. The academics were challenging, but overall, I think it is the level of professionalism expected at Wellesley that made me grow the most as a person. I think two big parts of why I liked Wellesley so much are the Ultimate Frisbee team and cycling. Hippies are in short supply at Wellesley, but the Ultimate Frisbee team has hippies, and hippies make me happy. I also like to bike everywhere and there are beautiful trails in the town of Wellesley. Biking to Boston is also not bad; it's only 13 miles. There's also rock climbing about 3 miles away. So that's all. Basically, I did not fit in when I got to Wellesley, but I found my niche, and I ended up incredibly glad that I went there.
