I am wishing for the days of the enjoyment at my home by the sea. My favorite year was freshman year because you did not have a car and running to the dorm before curfew was a eye roller back then but a conversation piece today. The education at hampton is like none other. Yes the girls dressed up everyday to go to the cafe and to stand outside of S & T building but that is the type of things that make Hampton so great. Yes… nothing is never fixed but believe it or not I miss VC hall w/o air condition or a elevator. I miss Mama J, the dorm director, acting like your mama yelling from the window to leave those no good boys alone and get to your room before curfew. And no Hampton is not a party school. Of course not you should be studying but my goodness… the parties were bumping at the Nova and Chestnut Bingo Hall and the ride on the party bus is one that will always stick to the back of my mind. the Hampton men on the waterfront who more than likely has a honey in the next dorm. The freshman stepshow when VC and Davidson stomped it out to shake the floor in boots! yes Boots! Friendships were fromed based on these experiences. Back then I did not appreciate little things as simple as sitting outised of the cafe on the yard or Ogden Step. Or listening to the myth of not standing on Ogden Circle or your will not graduate. After my first year it was time to buckle down which I took my time and got to know my professor who would see you in walmart and call you by your first name rather than saying you look familiar. the town is so small that you were able to interact with professors outside of school. at church, mall, etc. And the president could be in his front yard and he was at your finger tips. James Hall, Harkness wow what memories! those are the men dorms. And when I crossed that stage, walked down the steps each hug to my professor was so true because each one of them saw me grow analgous to a seed. You can't ask for a better atmosphere. I miss that old HU! Now that I am in law school I wish back to those good ol days at my home by the sea. I encourage everyone who can meet the challenge to be accepted at the real HU to take part in that experience. I promise years later you will be nervous for October to come so you can return to your home by the sea.
