As so many people state, college is what you make it, and you should also shop around.I transferred after my first year. I am a studious white girl from the South. I had a really hard time fitting in. As many people state, the Asian students are particularly exclusive and no one seems very friendly. I'll admit that I was used to the friendliness of a small Southern town, but I was still shocked at the rudeness. Most of my TAs did not speak English and my professors were not very accessible. Luckily the academics were not too challenging that I was able to learn on my own. There are a lot of clubs and events, and the housing is fairly standard.I was disappointed in the library and the gym facilities.I transferred back South to a large state university, actually bigger than Stony Brook. I was amazed that I didn't feel like a number at my new school like I had at Stony Brook.
