I am not a big drinker, I decided not to Rush and yet I still survive. There are plenty of social activities to do. I think it is all what you make of it.Fee comedy stand up on Fridays..have you done it?? Have you played Disc(frisbee golf)?Have you gone on the walking trails, seen the gardens?Sporting events?Movie theaters, bowling alley, paint some pottery, plenty of plays, musicals etc.I would like to see the poll of half of the class of 2009 want to transfer… ha ha ..you can find that anywhere.. for those that want to transfer out there are those that want to transfer in. |
Major: Journalism (This Major's Salary over time)
This has been the worst year of my life. If you're going into journalism, don't go here. The classes are a waste of time, the dept chair is an idiot and you'll get absolutely no experience working on the paper. If you're lucky, you'll get to write one story a semester. As for social life, the Greeks rule campus. Rush is brutal, but almost everyone you meet is greek and there's absolutely nothing to do on the weekends except go to frat parties. If you're not a big drinker, do NOT come here. This place is so big you're treated like a number. My roomates and I are the only freshmen on our floor and the classes are huge. The advising sucks. My first-year advisor lives in my building but I still spent literally, 2 hours on the phone with the advising dept trying to schedule my classes because neither she nor anyone else knew anything. Bottom line, Miami is cold and impersonal. It doesn't offer any opportunities that aren't available elsewhere. Undergrad resarch, study abroad, all that is found at any college. One more thing; more than half the freshman here want to transfer, including me. I heard from an alumnus that you don't get used to this place until your junior or senior year.
