Going to University of Hawaii at Manoa is pretty much the pits.

Coming from a private school and deciding to stay at home and attend University of Manoa is one of the biggest mistakes I ever made. I assumed that the school was not as bad as my other classmates had made it sound like(I thought they were just being plain snobby). Also, at the time I didn't want to spend 30-50,000 dollars a years but apparently when I went to UH, I finally understood why the tuition was so damn cheap.

UH is not one of the greatest schools go around. The campus is so behind maintenance that many of the things needed to be fixed takes years. For instance, I believe that Honolulu Advertiser even wrote an article about a huge hole in the St. John's Lab in the ceiling that hasn't been fixed for years(apparently no really gives a crap since nothing has been done and that was a year ago). The bathrooms are smelly and dirty, more than half of the buildings stink, air conditions are broken. Some things are so broken that it's sad and pathetic. I've even heard that people who do science labs find themselves sharing equipment. Yes,UH cannot even bother to buy new equipment to helps students further their education. I wonder where all the tax money has gone. The funny thing is that the buildings on the outside are painted and fixed up but in the inside is just a piece of crap. For instance, take a look at the entrance of Bilger Hall, you'll think ,

Well now, thats a pretty decent building not exactly pretty but I can live with it
then go to the inside classrooms and you'll find yourself staring at moldy chairs from the 1960s that smell like piss and metal pipes sticking out of the floor. Must be a conspiracy, great at decieving student and tourist tours since most of them don't show the inside of the buildings.

Students are not exactly friendly, you'll find most of the local people are stuck up and close minded. Coming from a private school again, I found myself isolated since I did not come from a public school and since most of them had friends already, they do not bother to be friendly to others. There are some pretty nice and decent people but most of them come from different islands and states. I have to say they were NICER than the local people(and I'm local myself what the hell). The thing is they don't even TRY to be nice, I found myself receiving mean glares and stares whenever I attempted to talk or make friendly conversations. Or no response. You'll find yourself being stared at/glared at for no reason at ALL. Girls can be snobby and many FOB people will gossip or make snide comments loudly to their friends.

The learning enviroment at UH is mixed or random. Most of the teachers I recieved were actually TAs which could be a good thing or a bad thing. If you recieved a bad TA, kiss your good grades good bye. Professors are almost non existent and don't care about their students. There's the few professors who are really good and care about the students but there have been too many bad teachers. Teachers who don't really care and really don't even bother to have office hours. Big classes, lots of students, very hard to become close to a teacher.

The only good things about UH was big campus and the English teachers. I have had so many good english professors that it's not even funny.

responseI totally agree with you! This will be my second year at uh, and I don't really want to go. I'm just going b/c I don't have a lot of money. I went to La Pietra (a private school) for high school and it was way harder than UH. I don't get why people at this school say college is harder than high school because it isn't!! I took a 400 level history class and had almost no stress. I also saw that one class was reading one of the books I read in 9th grade! Intro classes also stink. I can't wait to transfer.
