Major: Architecture (This Major's Salary over time)
I have been going to UH for 2 years now, I transferred from my home state after attending both a middle range state and an upper class private school, and I can say with all certainty that the UH School of Architecture is one of the worst run programs in the entire country. There a few good professors, but for the most part the administration is focused solely on their own agenda, totally forgetting the reason for their very jobs - the students. They expect everything to be done exactly as they specify, god forbid anyone deviate from their master plan because they actually want to get an education. I have been expelled from class after a few weeks in the semester because one of the assistant deans, who had never talked to me, felt I was taking a class out of order, even though my advisor, the professor, and the other assistant dean all approved of me being in the class. I have had doors slammed in my face when I wanted to talk to a professor in their office about a project, this list could go on and on, but basically it amounts to me having 150 credits and the University still not allowing me to achieve a basic Bachelor's degree. My adviser, would not change their schedule so I could get an appointment to meet with them around my class time and when I work to cover the cost of the nation's fastest rising tuition, so now they are refusing to meet with me and the administration is refusing to let me register until next fall after school starts. Like I said, this is bar none the worst run architecture school in the country. Do not come here. I don't know if it is the difference in cultural heritage in Hawaii, there is a lot of Asian influence, or the geographical location, but the concept of competition and service is absolutely foreign to them. Perhaps it's because they know that once you're in the program you're stuck for the next seven years as they tell you what to do and you have no other option but to stick it out or get some interdisciplinary degree that is nearly worthless. I can not stress enough how much I would try and discourage someone from coming here.
