UM has had a huge turnaround under the current president Donna Shalala and it continues this upward trend in its reputation. Many kids are on scholarhips and the University is trying to attract intellectual students that really want to take advantage of all they have to offer.

I found UM to be challenging academically with lots of interesting majors to choose from. From what I've heard, the Frost Music School is tops in the field and the pre-med program is also highly regarded. Many of the programs at UM have excellent reputations.

As for the atmosphere at UM…the campus is just gorgeous and you feel priveledged to be able to be outside all year round with palm trees, flowers and the lake right outside your dorm door. I enjoyed the Wellness Center which has a great gym, raquetball, basketball, classes, everything. The campus is easy to navigate and everything is about within a 15 minute walk.

Having Coconut Grove nearby is fun. It's a great little town with lots of character, nice shops, cafe's, restaturants, and bars. Some kids go to South Beach, but clubbing is not my thing. This brings me to the only downside of UM. Some kids have an attitude of entitlement and an arrogance that I find unappealing. However, there are enough down to earth kids that I was able to find friends and basically ignore the rest.

I think UM is an amazing school with lots of opportunities if you take advantage of them. It's a fun place to be and there is so much going on that you can't possibly be bored. Going to the beach or the campus pool on the weekends…how many college students can enjoy those benefits?
