Major: Other (This Major's Salary over time)
I am a first year and have had mixed reviews about Eckerd. It is a very open-minded and FLEXIBLE school. I believe, like any school you must take advantage of it for what its worth, I think that's where a lot of students create a negative reference to the school. Eckerd is meant for the student who is aggressive, creative, and willing to excel on their owen terms. Anywhere you go, whatever system it may be, if you are easy to "sweep under the rug" or maneuver around than it will happen. There isn't one school that will seek out complications or cater to any one students whims, but there are schools that will ignore even the most ambitious to follow protocal. Eckerd is the the college that if a student has a serious ambition or dream than all sources, faculty, and staff will pull for the student. I am creating my own major at Eckerd in Nutrition and International Business- my seriousness in pursuing the degree sparked interest in several professors (Eckerd is also a school where the teachers are there because they want to be and majority have earned significant status). In creating my own "concentration" as they call it, I create a board of professors and a custom curriculum to obtain a degree. I had teachers askign to be on my board to help because they were so excited at the challenge. Security has recently gotten tight, but luckily there's a student board that judges your situation if you're written up. Also, DO NOT TRANSFER to EC your SENIOR YEAR!! I've had a few friends do this and because of the unique requirements that EC has, many students become 5th year seniors! (Suppossedly EC has the highest rating for 5th-years, more than likely b/c students don't want to leave more so than requirements)I can go on about this school and its programs, it has its ups and downs… I may not be reutrning because of the tuition rate, its ungodly high and in all honestly not worth the dough unless you can get scholarships and discounts. Teachers are extremely supportive if you earn their respect (not too difficult to do either).People are extremly friendly, kids are very open to meeting newbies, although sports teams can be tight they're open to cool people…(I was recruited for the women's soccer team). The basketball, volleball, and men's soccer teams are very successful.
