Honestly this place can be good and bad. Being an out of state student it really failed my expectations. In terms of the students at the school I would say the students who are more liberal tend to be friendlier. Most of the students can be unapproachable and snobby depending on the circumstances. I felt students were friendlier with a drink in there hand. By all means its a good school for you if you are a Midwestern kid but it seems harder for kids from other regions of the US. It can also be very difficult if you are a minority student. I noticed minority students often felt uncomfortable unless they were on a sports team. It was also a lot harder for minority kids from out of the region. One thing about Milwaukee, there is a big racial problem within that city that is hardly ever talked about but its there. In terms of education I feel some faculty members are better than others. They are helpful when you need it. Somehow the work just seems to pile up here. This school is really for kids who live in the library on weekdays and live on the keg on weekends. Somehow I find that homework problems and test questions are significantly harder than what is taught in the class room. As with all colleges some first year classes are in huge lecture halls. Here a tip, sit in the front or middle you learn better. Also the text books suck too.. they don’t teach you anything!! So if you just skip like one day of class and think reading the textbook will help you catch up…bad idea. The nightlife in the city is pretty good. There always a party or restaurants you could go to. One thing when on the street use common sense.. some people complain about the homeless and people getting robbed.. it could all be avoided if people use right judgment. I found it to be really safe on campus for a city. I liked the fact that Marquette was close to Chicago and 2 major airports. Overall I did not enjoy my experience and that is why I’m transferring back to a school on the east coast, but I can say I did make a lot of friends that helped me enjoy some of my time here.
