LSU is an amazing place to grow up and become an adult. As with just about any University, it is what you make of it. I began my college career at a smaller school(freshman year) and transferred to LSU in year 2. The campus is beautiful and the people are just wonderful. There are always things to do on and around campus. And what can I say about Saturday nights in the fall…Tiger Stadium is just electric!

My advice to incoming students:

1. Don't waste your time in High School. Learn all you can as it will pay dividends in college. I didn't and had to really buckle down to keep up.

2. Live in the dorms your Freshman year. You'll meet tons of people.

3. Even if you have no intention of going Greek, go through rush. Again, you'll meet lots of new people.

4. Make time for some extra-curricular activities. Join a club, organization, or service fraternity. It's a growth experience.

5. LSU gives you all the tools(tutoring, computer labs, etc.) you need to be successful. Make use of them.

6. Take advantage of your professors' office hours. If you're "just this close to" a higher grade, it is definitely a plus in your favor if the professor at least knows your face when you ask to for an extra credit project.

7. Take a few classes solely for the learning experience, even if they're not required for your degree. Being well-rounded when you graduate can only help.

8. Go to class, pay attention, and take good notes. Sit in the front of the class and use a micro-recorder with a tape counter. If you miss something, leave a few spaces and note the tape count in the margin.

9. Have a little fun!
