Georgia Southern is an ok school. Its true that there is mostly nothing to do, but Statesboro is what you make it.The Campus is VERY beautiful and the RAC is a great student tool. GSU is doing a lot to improve the look and resource of the school. As a minority, you do get looks sometimes but I really havent experienced any harsh racism. If you are a minority and you are coming to GSU because you think its a party school, you will be VERY disappointed! For us, the parties are shut down by the statesboro police promptly at midnight. It is mostly a white school but lots of the people here are friendly. The black community is steadly rising each semester. I would have loved to go to an HBCU but one must realize that the world is not an "HBCU" environment, and college sets you up for the real world. The one thing I do not like about GSU is the lack of ethnic activites at school and the surrounding areas. They should embrace that minorities are apart of the school and do more to welcome us! Its true that some surrounding residents are close minded but everyone deals with people like that one time or another, in life. Personally, most of the residents have been very nice! All in all though, your experience at GSU depends on the friends you make and the effort you put into becoming an all around successful student. Please dont let drinking get in your way, because it ruins some people their first semester there!I am currently a good standing student that is also highly involved in many different activites, AND I awlays make time for parties and fun, so it is possible to be a "true" minority( because we all know that there are some that are confused, especially at GSU)and have a good college experience at GSU. Its all what YOU make it.
