Cal State Long Beach was an amazing experience! Yes it is a commuter school and the dorms sucked (but it was funny to look back and see what we survived!) but all in all I felt that my stay in long beach will go without regret. First of all everyone says the dorms are horrible and they just started plans to refurbish them although it may take a couple years.Second of all I never felt like a number and joing things like the Learning Alliance which made the school feel smaller and crew made me feel part of a school community. The Learning Alliance is for academic people who want to make the most out of their school career at CSULB. You get to have classes that are made especially for the Learning Alliance students therefore meet people. CSULB is for people who want to make a name for themselves and have the drive to do it themselves. Nothing is given to you a silver platter. I had to set up my internships and field schools but in the end it made me a better person because I know how to get things I want with no other help.Thirdly, the culture you get from the surrounding city is like no other. You can find every type of religion and ethnicity residing in a 20 mile radius. The food here is AMAZING!!! There is so much to do because you have a beach town that abuts the city downtown part. I can't stress how amazing the diversity of culture was. Everyone here is accepting because they also want to have different cultures. Where else would my room mates include a lesbian, a couple born again christians and two hippies (all living happily together at the same time).
