I went to Duquesne University because I, like most people who go to Duquesne, went because my grandfather went, my father went, my aunts and uncles went, and my cousins attend. Duquesne is a nice campus in the middle of the city of Pittsburgh. I could be biased being from the city originally, but I really do enjoy everything the city has to offer.

Duquesne is right next to the hill district, which is the worst part of the city of Pittsburgh. That really is the only downside to the location. Oakland and the South Side are great for parties, and you can normally find stuff to do. There are ZERO parties on campus because there are no houses, and everyone has to live in dorms. Kids party in the dorm rooms, but that really is never that great of a time.

The academics here when I was in high school hyped up to be something great, but the reality is, if you just go to class and do marginally well, you can slip by with a really easy 3.0 untill you get into your major classes.

Kids at Duquesne are mostly loaded spoiled kids who really have zero concept of what the real world is like. If you do not fit the Duquesne mold you will be alienated and it will be very hard for you to find your niche.

I haven't been too impressed with the faculty at Duquesne. Either you have an amazing professor, or a horrible professor…there's really no in between. The library at Duquesne is horrible. Compared to other colleges that Duquesne is supposed to be on the same level as, its laughable at the lack of technology and resources it has.

The dorms suck here. Find a place to live off campus after freshman year. They are notoriously ranked as some of the worst in the country.

The major selection at Duquesne is very, very narrow. They have a handful of programs that are top notch, but if what you want to do doesn't fit in the realm of those programs, you are pretty much screwed, and either have to transfer, or earn a degree that you really don't intend on using.

If I were to choose a school again it would most definitely not be Duquesne. I do not feel like I am getting my $34,000 dollar a year worth. You can go down the street to Pitt and get the same, or a better education for $20,000 less. If interested in Duquesne I would really take every opprotunity to get to know the campus, and the people who go there. Because things arent always what they seem when you take your tours as a high school student.
