Major: Chemistry (This Major's Salary over time)
Houghton isn't close to much anything, and it is a small town which doesn't have much of a night life. There is a lot of snow. But that can all be good. I think that the distance that students drive to get here instills a sort of independence that I don't see as much elsewhere. And living in Houghton has benifits as well: how many universities have their own ski resort? If you like snow, hiking, camping, fishing, the outdoors, this is a wonderful place. If you don't like snow, don't come here. The guy:girl ratio sucks. Which sucks. If that is a deal breaker, don't come here. You might want to get out of engineering too (Math and Chemistry, my majors, have even ratios by the way).Classes are generally worthwhile and interesting. The large freshman classes will always elicit complaints. On the other hand, that's always a decent conversation topic when you meet people. If you are having troubles, there are learning centers in all the main subjects to help you through: if you are willing to put in the work, you will not fail.
